Snowfall offers picturesque landscapes and beautiful scenery. However, winter weather and icy conditions can cause accidental falls which may result in serious injury. Please consult the following list of helpful winter weather tips before heading out the door:
Dress in Layers: Did you know that over half of hypothermia-related deaths occur in people over the age of 65? Wearing proper clothing — jackets, scarves, knit hats — is the first step in avoiding frostbite and hypothermia.
Wear Good Shoes: Slick sidewalks and roadways require proper footwear with good tread. If you use a can, be sure to keep it in good working condition. Sturdy nonslip shoes keep us from sliding on the ice or falling in the snow.
Vehicles: Checking things like oil, tires, battery and wipers can make a big difference on winter roads. Be sure to equip your vehicle with basic emergency supplies including a first aid kit, blanket, shovel and flashlight.
