Financial Support to the Community

Community Impact Goals
Community Outreach and Partnerships
Pat Pilong loves working with her Landis At Home caregivers. “They are always so very conscientious about helping me and doing it with a smile!” she shares. The services she receives from the caregivers makes it possible for her to stay in her home and thrive.
Recently Pat’s daughter Beth found out her mother was eligible for a new program called OPTIONS, administered by the Lancaster County Office of Aging (OOA). This program provides residents with care services in their homes, such as personal care, home health, and home delivered meals. It also can provide financial help to family members who are caring for loved ones at home to cover costs like adult day care, respite care, and specialized medical transportation assistance. Landis Communities, through Landis At Home, is OPTIONS’ newest service provider!
OOA Executive Director Lon Wible says, “We welcome Landis at Home and remain confident in their ability to provide quality service to Lancaster’s seniors! For more than 30 years the Office of Aging and Landis Communities have enjoyed a long and productive partnership, always focusing on the needs of the older person and especially those most vulnerable. We look forward to this new venture and express appreciation to Landis Communities for their commitment: past, present, and future.”
Michele Sipel, the Director of InHome Services, said connecting in this new way makes sense. “This allows us to meet our plans to expand our services to even more county residents. Participating in OPTIONS means we will have even more opportunities to be a service to folks across an even wider income range.”
Mother and daughter Pat and Beth were glad to see this program would allow a continuation of services but concerned it would mean a change in who was providing care.
Pat was overjoyed saying, “I am so glad Landis At Home is part of the OPTIONS program! It is going to allow me to stay here at home safely as long as I can.”
Pastoral Services
Pastoral Services hosts a vast array of events to benefit the community. In this unique year, due to the many challenges COVID-19 brought to family communication, each Chaplain received an iPad. This simple tool helped them better fulfill their mission of connecting residents with their pastors, churches and families. Locally and around the world, our team was able to provide connections for end of life visits, graveside services or family sharing following a loved one’s death.
Volunteering
The Manheim Township High School Boys Lacrosse Team volunteered at Landis Homes once a month from November 2019 through February 2020. Known as Cyber Seniors, these volunteers assisted the residents with their smart devices which facilitated community relationships and intergenerational understanding.
Community and Caregiver Education
Wellness at Landis was pleased to welcome an intern from Lebanon Valley College. In January and February, Joseph Bassett served 270 hours, including time spent observing and helping to lead exercise classes, providing fitness center orientations, creating promotional material for the Lancaster Senior Games, writing an educational article on Rate of Perceived Exertion for fitness center users, and offering fitness assessments and reviews to residents. Michele Stipe, Director of Life Enrichment at Landis Homes, says, “Joe was a great addition to the wellness team. While working at Landis Homes, he created relationships with residents and helped them feel confident.”
